RevFM Local Artist Policy:

From time to time you may hear artists with local roots such as Stephanie Smith Skipper, Allan Scott and Randy Fisher played on the air.  You may be asking why we play these local artists and not others.  Here is a brief explanation for the process and conditions that must be met for airing a local artist on RevFM.

So, what is the criteria for local artists being played on RevFM?

1) Quality:  We have a responsibility to our listeners to play the best written, best produced, best-performed songs and artists.

2) Recording method: Music must be professionally produced and recorded (no “home studio” recordings).  Music must be provided in WAV digital file format through a digital download service such as PlayMPE or All Access. Unsolicited emailed files and mailed CDs will not be considered.

3) Authenticity:  Digital download links must be accompanied by an emailed letter requesting to be aired, by the recording artist.  No phone calls, please.

4) Performance: Artists must have a history of live, public performances throughout the listening area.

5) Management: Artists must have adequate management representation.

6) Spiritual content:  Songs must conform to lyrical criteria, as determined by the General and Station Managers.  Lyrics need to be included with the request.

7) Format:  Music must be consistent with the current Christian Adult Contemporary format in musical style and lyrical content.

A few things you should know about RevFM:

*We would love to play every sincere artist, and regret that we cannot.

*We operate with a very small staff, whose priority is the day-to-day programming and management of the station.  Please be patient with us!

     * We receive TONS of music!  We review new music as time permits, but unfortunately, not everything—local or national—will get airplay.

     * Our responsibility is to our listeners.  We attempt to keep their listening habits in mind when making music choices.  Through telephone calls, e-mail and written feedback, we feel we will get a pretty accurate picture of what RevFM listeners want.

*The General Manager has the ultimate decision in what is played or not played.  The announcers on the air are not responsible for music selection or programming decisions.

   * Occasionally, during December, we will air Christmas music by local artists that do not meet conditions 4 & 5 listed above.  If you have recorded an original Christmas song and would like for us to consider airing the song, please send us an email.  All other conditions must be met to be considered for air.

A few favors we ask:

*Please do not call and request your own music.  Please do not ask your friends and family to call.  When we start getting unsolicited calls from listeners who have seen you in concert and are being ministered to by your music, we will be much more apt to sit up and take notice!

*Get involved in the local Christian music scene.  Our area has an abundance of coffeehouses and opportunities for ministering.  This experience is invaluable in building up a fan and support base.

*Make use of our public service announcements for concerts you are performing at.  This free service will get the word out about your upcoming shows for several weeks prior to the concert.

*Please do not develop a “what can RevFM do for me” mentality.  Our station’s goal is to glorify the Lord, encourage the Body of Christ, and reach non-believers with His message, through music.   Our focus is on Him, not the performers.

*Support RevFM in prayer.  If you are interested in investing in the lives of the listeners through the ministry of RevFM, this is a tangible way of doing it.

If RevFM does not play your music, please keep in mind…

*RevFM is not the “be all and end all”.  If the Lord is directing you into music ministry, do not let a radio station dissuade you from your task.  If getting radio airplay from RevFM “makes or breaks” your music career, you may want to reconsider what you are doing.

*Keep at it!  As you and we progress and mature, it is possible your music may be played in the future.  Some of the most well-known national artists were rejected several times by radio stations in their first few tries.

*Persistent phone calls or e-mails will not make us more apt to play your music.  If you feel we are in error, pray for us, that the Lord would open our eyes.

*Not all music…even all GREAT music…is good radio music.

*One of the hardest things to do is tell someone their music is not good enough.  Music is a very personal thing, and as an artist, your music is like your “baby”.  Try to understand what we are saying.  We are not saying YOU are not good enough, or that the Lord can’t use you.  We are just saying that your music is not ready for RevFM at this time.

*The management and staff covets your prayers, that we would be led by God in these decisions.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  May the Lord bless you as you serve Him.
